It’s one of the most basic, fundamental needs we all have as human beings: confidence in ourselves and our ability to succeed. While it might seem like self-confidence should be an easy thing to have, many people struggle with it throughout their lives, especially when faced with major life events such as starting a new job or launching a new product into the marketplace. If you feel like you’re lacking in the confidence department, there are several things you can do to gain more of it quickly and easily.


Realize What It Takes

One of the most common reasons for lack of self-confidence is a tendency to compare yourself to those around you. Although our society celebrates individuality, there's no denying that we're all influenced by our peers. If you notice that your friends and colleagues always seem to have better jobs, bigger houses, nicer cars, and more money than you do; it can be easy to begin wondering if there's something wrong with you. 

At first glance it seems simple enough: just stop comparing yourself to others. When in doubt, just remind yourself that everyone has his or her own unique path and journey through life; nobody knows what anyone else has gone through or is going through. This isn't an excuse for complacency instead, it's an affirmation of reality. In other words, don't worry about being like everyone else. 


Worry about being like you the best version of yourself possible. In fact, many people who feel they are lacking in confidence simply need to look at their past accomplishments and successes before they move forward with their lives. Keep track of your achievements not necessarily to brag but rather as reminders that you've already overcome obstacles and challenges before. 


Remembering these things will help build self-confidence because it will show how far you've come! It will also give you an idea of where you want to go next. It's important to remember that when building self-confidence, it is not necessary to share your goals and dreams with others. Stop Holding Yourself Back

Most people are their own biggest enemy when it comes to fulfilling their potential. We can all hold ourselves back and prevent ourselves from achieving what we really want in life through limiting beliefs and negative self-talk. For example, you might believe that you aren’t good enough to do a certain job or you might have a damaging thought about why you haven’t achieved success in a particular area of your life yet. 


When you understand how your thoughts can limit your abilities, it becomes easier to learn how to quieten them down and start realizing just how powerful they are. Negative thoughts hold us back and learning how to control them is one of the most valuable things we can do for ourselves. It's also a skill that takes time and practice to master. But with practice, you'll be able to recognize harmful thoughts earlier on before they begin holding you back from reaching your goals. 


With practice, you'll also notice that positive thoughts are more present in your day-to-day life. And when positive thinking becomes part of who you are, your confidence will naturally follow suit! Break down each issue into smaller tasks and give yourself tangible goals that will show progress; in no time you'll look back and see how far you've come. Just remember to celebrate every victory along the way. The Feeling Is Real: As with most confidence issues, it’s important to remember that what you're feeling isn't necessarily irrational it just doesn't feel right for whatever reason.

Insight From Someone Who Knows: The last piece of advice comes from someone who definitely knows where she's coming from Mandy Hale. Mandy has suffered from anxiety and depression for most of her life, and it wasn't until she discovered her passion for modeling that she was able to find confidence in herself and her abilities. 


When I started modeling I was so shy, but as soon as I got out there on set, my fears melted away, Mandy says. It made me realize that no matter how scared you are, you can do it if you put your mind to it. She also had some great tips on how to get over those self-confidence issues when they crop up again: There will always be moments when your confidence takes a hit, Mandy says. 


But instead of letting it bring you down, try to turn each setback into a learning experience. Ask yourself what went wrong and what you could have done differently and then use that information to make sure next time goes better! 


Be Confident In Yourself: Remember, being confident isn’t about being perfect or even being better than anyone else it’s about knowing who you are and having faith in your ability to succeed at anything! As long as you know why you want something, take small steps towards achieving goals and don’t let setbacks stop you from trying again with time, practice and patience anyone can become more confident!


Don’t Compare Yourself

Comparing yourself to other people is a surefire way to feel bad about yourself. Rather than put yourself in a comparison trap, focus on doing your best and accepting that success isn’t defined by how much better you are than someone else. 

When you’re comparing your journey to others, it may lead you to think that your accomplishments aren't enough or are unimpressive. But there will always be people who are faster, more beautiful, richer...and so on. Focus on being grateful for what you have, rather than envious of what others have.


It's also important to remember that everyone has their own path and different things come easily to different people. If you find yourself feeling envious of others' successes, remind yourself that you don't know what they've been through or where they started from or if they're even happy with where they ended up! Sometimes we compare ourselves with our friends because we want them to see us as equals; however, most of us don't realize when we're doing it. 

Instead of trying to compete with your friends (or anyone else), try focusing on making new friends who share similar interests as well as support each other's dreams and goals. In order to build self-confidence, start small and set attainable goals. Then work hard towards those goals every day. 


Don't get discouraged if you fall short sometimes: instead, celebrate your wins no matter how small they might seem! And above all else: Be kind to yourself. Beating yourself up over mistakes won't help build self-confidence at all in fact, it can actually do just the opposite. Acknowledge that you made a mistake but then forgive yourself and move forward. Lastly, 

Give praise where praise is due: Give credit to those around you who help you succeed and cheerlead whenever possible! It's important to recognize others' accomplishments because it not only makes them feel good but it also shows that you're a compassionate person. 

This can lead to new opportunities for yourself as well! The truth is that self-confidence comes from within and it doesn't happen overnight. But by working hard towards your goals and being kind to yourself along the way, you'll be on your way in no time.


Know Your Strengths

One of the best ways to build your confidence is to develop a clear sense of what you’re good at, and don’t be afraid to capitalize on those skills. Most of us have weaknesses but we all have strengths as well. And while there are tons of exercises you can do to shore up weaknesses, they may not be worth your time if they aren’t in your wheelhouse. 

It takes real effort and self-awareness to tap into your strengths and capitalize on them, but ultimately it will make you feel better about yourself if you realize that there are parts of life where you really excel. Once you know your strengths, figure out how to put them to work for you. 


If you’re great with people, consider a career in sales or marketing. If you like numbers, take some accounting classes or think about pursuing an MBA degree so that you can get into finance. If writing comes naturally for you, try blogging or freelance writing; if organizing things does too, perhaps become an event planner or project manager. 

Whatever it is that comes easy for you should be something that helps guide your career path and professional development efforts. Identify your natural talents and use them to your advantage. 


Take Action: Don’t just tell yourself that you have strengths put them to use! Identify one thing that scares you and then find someone who has done what you want to do (or who has been where you want to go) and ask for their advice. Then follow through! After reaching out, get feedback from others on how you handled yourself, then apply those lessons moving forward. 


Remember: There’s no success without failure, so don't let setbacks derail your progress toward building confidence. Just keep pushing through until success feels more comfortable than failure ever did! When in doubt about whether or not you can handle something new (like speaking publicly), give it a shot anyways! Know Your Weaknesses: It’s important to identify your weaknesses as well as strengths and then do something about them if possible. If there are certain things that just make you uncomfortable, make a conscious effort to avoid doing them at all costs otherwise they might prevent you from achieving success down the road. 

If you have trouble speaking up in meetings or saying no when it’s appropriate, try taking an assertiveness training class or reading some books on personal development and self-awareness. If public speaking makes you anxious and causes your heart rate to spike, take some time to practice being more comfortable in front of people by taking a public speaking class (or signing up for Toastmasters). 


Get Comfortable With Failure

If you want to build self-confidence, then it's important that you get comfortable with failure. We're going to be over here cheerleading for you, but don't expect us to take all of your defeats personally. It's not about us it's about you growing as an individual and reaching your full potential. In order to succeed, there are times when we have to fail; what we do in those situations defines who we are as a person. Embrace failure by learning from it and using it to fuel future success! And if you can't learn anything useful, let it motivate you to try harder next time. This will help develop that positive attitude toward challenging experiences which is crucial to developing confidence. So, go out there and fail (we'll support you)! And remember: Failure isn’t personal embrace it!


Accept That Risks Are Necessary

If you want to be successful, you need to embrace risk. Nobody truly successful has gotten there by playing it safe. From Steve Jobs being fired from Apple before he helped make them a billion-dollar company, to Richard Branson risking his own money on Virgin Records and eventually creating one of the most well-known brands in history, all of these world changers have one thing in common: 


they all accepted that risks are necessary. If you want your business or career to succeed and grow like theirs did, then you too must accept that risks are necessary. Only then can you put yourself out there and try new things without fear of failure holding you back. Be Willing To Face Your Fears: Fear is an emotion that everyone experiences but few people know how to deal with it. 


It’s paralyzing, distracting, and exhausting and it will hold you back if left unchecked. Many people avoid taking action because they don’t want to face their fears head-on. They feel like if they don’t address those fears directly, then those fears won’t get any worse than what they already are but what happens is that those fears just sit there growing larger and more powerful every day until one day something triggers them and suddenly everything comes crashing down around you. 


Don’t let that happen to you! Instead, learn how to confront your fears head-on. Accept That Failure Is Inevitable: Everyone fails at some point even if it doesn't seem like it when looking at someone else's success story. Just ask Michael Jordan who failed over and over again during his first two years as a basketball player for North Carolina University before finally breaking through. 


Or Bill Gates who dropped out of Harvard after two years despite having a 4.0 GPA so he could start Microsoft with Paul Allen (who was also a college dropout). These men didn't let failures stop them from achieving success later in life - instead, they learned from their mistakes and kept going forward until they were where they wanted to be.


Surround Yourself with Positive People

Spending time with positive people can increase your level of confidence because they’ll bolster your self-esteem. When you feel good about yourself, it will be easier to put a smile on your face, walk tall and carry yourself with an air of confidence. 

Positive people are great examples of how to act and think in positive ways, so when you hang out with them, you may naturally pick up on those attributes and adopt them as your own. Do everything you can to limit negative influences in your life by minimizing time spent with toxic or gossipy friends.

 

Be sure to surround yourself with positive people who lift you up rather than tear you down; it’s impossible to have true confidence without self-esteem and one is impossible without the other. It takes a while to get used to being around positive people, but if you give it some time and try to soak up their energy and enthusiasm, you'll start feeling more confident too. 

And don't forget: You can always choose to spend more time with positive people if you make that choice for yourself. It's easy enough to avoid spending every waking hour surrounded by negativity! It's also important not only to surround yourself with positive people but also to create relationships based on positivity too (with work colleagues etc.). 


This way of thinking isn't just beneficial for personal growth but professional growth too. A person with a positive attitude towards work makes themselves and others happy. As much as you can change someone's mind about something, you could potentially help shape someone into becoming better at what they do too! 


Consistency is Key: No matter what method of building self-confidence you decide to use, consistency is key. There’s no point in putting 100% effort into trying something once and then never doing it again. Instead, set aside a little bit of time each day or each week for whatever activity will help boost your confidence.


Have a Journal, Not a Diary (And Write In It Daily!)

There’s a big difference between a journal and a diary, and keeping them separate is important to building your self-confidence. A journal is an open space where you can write down everything that’s on your mind, while a diary is a private place for you to confide in yourself. What happens when you don’t have someone else to talk to? 

Well, you end up writing stuff down in your journal, which helps build your confidence. Having something to look back at during hard times gives you perspective as well as purpose: When I was younger, I used my journals for emotional support; now I use them for historical records. In either case, having a place to write things down and not worrying about anyone else reading it is helpful. 

The Power of Positive Thinking: Try using affirmations (say them out loud if possible) and other techniques to help boost your confidence. If you say negative things about yourself (or others), try turning those thoughts around into positive ones instead (e.g., I'm so smart! instead of I'm so stupid!). It may seem silly or weird but it does work! And if all else fails, just remember what Winston Churchill said: A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty. Be optimistic! 


Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and Take Risks!: Don’t be afraid to take risks, even small ones that might make you uncomfortable at first. One easy way is by asking for a promotion at work or for more responsibility at home. When people are nervous about making a change whether it’s something big like starting a business or something small like applying for a new job they often put off doing anything until they feel 100% ready. 


But here’s some good news: When people wait until they feel 100% ready before taking action, they never end up taking action because 100% ready doesn’t exist. Instead of waiting for that mythical time when you have everything figured out and you’re confident in your abilities, take small steps to get yourself moving in a positive direction. 


For example, if you want to start a business but don't know where to begin, try talking to friends or family about your idea and see what feedback they have for you. If you want a promotion at work but are afraid of what your boss will think about it, ask him or her if there's anything more you can do to be considered for an advancement in position! And if you're afraid of getting rejected when applying for a new job (or promotion), remember that rejection is not failure it's just information that helps guide us toward what we really want and need from our lives.
